Today, services and acts of commemoration will be held up and down Britain in honour of Remembrance Day. On this day, we are joining people across the nation in donning our red poppies and pausing for a moment, in memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for us in conflict.
Here at Cotton Traders, we are proud to show our support for our brave Servicemen and women by working together to raise funds for the wonderful charity, Help for Heroes. Through fundraising events and sales of our exclusive Help for Heroes collection, we have managed to raise over £450,000 so far, taking us even closer to our £1m target.
In April, we hosted a very successful golf tournament at the Mere Resort & Spa in Knutsford. The day kicked off with a lighthearted putting competition but the golfers were soon driving their way around the course, all striving for first place. Despite everyone's best efforts, co-founder Steve Smith, our compère for the evening, and his team of experienced golfers took the trophy.
The tournament was followed by an evening meal, prizes (including the obligatory wooden spoon, won by our Mail group!), a raffle and speeches given by Bryn Parry, co-founder of Help For Heroes, and the very brave Jason Wilkes and Greg Stevenson, who both spoke about their time in the forces. Jason was injured as a result of a suicide car bomb incident in Iraq and has since been dealing with the invisible injury Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is campaigning to raise awareness of PTSD and other mental health disorders, ensuring that sufferers no longer have to struggle in silence. The grand total raised by the end of the day was an astounding £15,000!
July saw yet another fundraising feat with our Family Fun Day - a busy day of activities including a 7-a-side football tournament, stalls, BBQ, plenty of prizes and live music. Sadly, despite winning the tournament last year, our ever-enthusiastic team only made it to the semi-final this time. However, they didn't let it dampen their spirits - it was the perfect excuse to spend a day enjoying the sunshine in the company of good friends, all whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.
Here at Head Office, we can't take all the credit for these successes. We have over 125 stores nationwide and we have witnessed an impressive dedication from our in-store staff to this worthy cause. With sponsored bike rides, walks, fancy dress, fashion shows, raffles and bake sales, they have independently raised a brilliant £165,000 so far!
From our incredible staff to our loyal customers, we'd like to thank all those who have worked so hard to help us towards our target. Every penny raised for this charity makes a massive impact on the lives of our heroes and their families.
There is still a long way to go - as we remember the fallen today, we must also remember those who are still battling on. Click here to show your support with an order from our latest Help for Heroes collection
