Here at Cotton Traders, we’ve put together a guide on what shoes are best worn in throughout winter, spring, summer and autumn. We’ve put together a whole choice of footwear that’s best suited come rain or shine, from sturdy boots to summer sandals.
With this guide, you’ll never get caught out with the wrong footwear.
Ankle boots give you more coverage throughout the cold winter months without skimping on style. There are so many fun ones out there too: wedges, heels, flats, cut-outs, laced, buckles... the choice is endless! Side zips promise easy foot entry, whilst
chunky or low heels mean you don't have to compromise on comfort. Wear your ankle boots with a pair of jeans and fine knit jumper, or you can dress them up with a knee-length skirt and blouse – not forgetting a pair of tights for extra comfort.
If you prefer a little more leg coverage then knee length boots are just as stylish and can also come in a variety of styles. If you have a wider leg then there are plenty of options that come with a zip for easy foot entry or adjustable buckle. Knee-high
boots always look good with a calf-length skirt or dress, and can be dressed up or down quite easily.
Spring can be a little bit like autumn: it’s always difficult to predict the weather and to decide what footwear to wear. For drier and warmer days, ballet pumps work well and are a good choice for spring. They also look good without a pair of tights
so a little bit of bare foot is showing.
Peep toe wedges are also a good choice for an evening out worn with a pair of chinos or maxi dress and cardigan. For wetter and colder days, ballet pumps and peep toes can be worn with a pair of skin-coloured tights and for the evening a pair of court
shoes will keep your feet dry yet won’t look out of place.
Hopefully the sun is out which can only mean one thing: we can get out our feet and let them breathe. Summer sandals come in so many pretty styles - jewelled, studded, strappy, open-toe, closed-toe, leather, suede, flat, wedges, and many more!
However, if you prefer to keep your feet under wraps, don’t worry – there’s still plenty to choose from. For example, a pair of ballet pumps or a closed toe shoe with an open back can look very chic and stylish. All sandals and pumps go well with shorts,
skirts and dresses, and are the perfect shoe to dress up or down.
Autumn can be a difficult season - knowing what footwear best suits is tricky because of the ever-changing weather. As mentioned earlier, ankle boots are also a good choice for autumn as they’re not too bulky if it’s a warm autumn day, but still protect
your feet from any rain that might be on its way.
Court shoes are also a good option, allowing your feet to breathe but also stay stylish at the same time. Court shoes go with almost anything too - skirts, trousers, dresses, jeans to name but a few.
If you like to dress more for comfort then invest in a good pair of flat loafers or ballet pumps that are ideal with a pair of jeans or dressed up with tights and a skirt. Loafers can come in a variety of fabrics from suede, leather and patent – just
make sure you protect them from the rain.
