Summer Drinks – The Thread

Summer is well and truly here and, when the sun is shining, all we want to do is gather in back gardens around barbecues, burgers in one hand and an ice cold drink in the other.

For a little bit of inspiration, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite summer drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) so you can sip away and beat the heat in style!

White sangria

Pour a bottle of your favourite white wine into a large pitcher and combine with slices of cucumber, balls of melon and sprigs of mint for a fresh twist on this Spanish favourite. Leave to chill for 2 hours for a subtly infused flavour.


The epitome of British summertime, Pimms packs a flavourful punch particularly when your cup is full to the brim with in-season strawberries, cucumber and mint. Simply use one part Pimms to three parts chilled lemonade. For something a little bit different, substitute the lemonade with ginger beer!

Fruit sodas

Use a blender to purée your favourite summer fruit – we love peaches, nectarines and strawberries – and stir the purée into a glass of soda water and ice for a refreshing fruity treat.

Virgin mojito

Muddle fresh mint leaves with a teaspoon of white sugar in the bottom of your glass, add the juice of one lime then top up with soda water. Close your eyes and you could be in the Bahamas!

Virgin Tequila Sunrise

Blend a glass of orange juice with one scoop of lemon sorbet and a measure of grenadine for a perfectly tart summer cooler.

Fizzy Margarita

Combine the juice of one lime with a measure of tequila and top up with Grapefruit pop for a fun and fizzy take on this classic cocktail. Serve over ice in a salt-rimmed glass for authenticity!

Whole lemon still lemonade

Blend two whole lemons with one litre of water and sweeten to taste with simple syrup. Simply strain through a muslin cloth or fine sieve and serve with ice and a slice.

Cold brew iced coffee

In your cafetiere, combine fresh ground coffee with room temperature water (we recommend 1 tablespoon coffee for every 250ml water), stir to combine thoroughly and leave covered in the fridge for 12 hours. Once ready, simply use the lid of the cafetiere to push the grounds down, as you would with hot coffee. Pour over ice and drink black or serve with milk. Tip: You can also freeze coffee to make flavoured ice cubes that won’t dilute your drink!

Infused water

A delicious and super easy way to get your eight glasses a day. Simply fill a jug with water and your favourite fruit and leave it to infuse in the fridge for a fantastic, slightly sweeter alternative to plain water. Plus, you can reuse the fruit; so just keep topping the jug up from the tap!
